OUR SUNDAY Track Workout

West Seattle Stadium, 9:30AM

Track is held at the West Seattle Stadium located at 4432 35th Ave SW, Seattle, WA 98126 on Sunday mornings at 9:30AM. Members engage in track workouts under the guidance of our track coach.

 
 
 

Those participating in track receive professional training on walking and running techniques. The coach assists each individual in developing a 26-week training program based on individual goals for specific events. Please note that track season is from late February through August.

When does track meet?

The Seattle Frontrunners Track Team meets on Sunday mornings at 9:30 AM at West Seattle Stadium from late February through August. Many of us continue working out through the fall. We’d love for you to join us!

Who can join?

The Frontrunners Track Team is diverse in membership and in our goals. Our male and female members range in age from the 20s to 80s. We enjoy working out together, and many of us compete at track meets. We have sprinters, middle distance runners, marathoners, race walkers, long jumpers, high jumpers, hurdlers, javelin and discus throwers, shot putters, pentathletes and decathletes. Some of us are fast, some of us are not so fast. Some of us are strong.. you get the idea. It's a supportive place for trying new skills or renewing old ones. You can have fun working on your fitness in a variety of ways.

What are the team goals?

Goals vary. We have competitive track and field athletes of all levels, from beginners to athletes who have been nationally and internationally ranked. We also have recreational athletes who are less interested in competing. Most of us are in the middle somewhere. We all share the goals of having fun, and using track and field to improve our fitness.

Is there coaching for the team?

Our coach and some of the experienced teammates can work with you to achieve your goals, whatever they may be. You may want to try track and field events for the first time. You may want to try speed work to improve your marathon times. You may just want to work on general fitness. Everybody is welcome.

When does the season begin? And does the team compete?

We begin each season in February with a team meeting to discuss plans for the year. Many of us will compete in some of the local track and field meets from May to August. If there is a special event that year, such as the Gay Games or the Outgames, we begin organizing for that. These international meets take place every four years. The team has traveled to Amsterdam, Sydney, Chicago, Montreal, Copenhagen, Cologne and Antwerp so far. Anyone who has gone will tell you what an incredible experience it is to meet people from all over the world, and to compete under the philosophy of "Participation, Inclusion and Personal Best,” and to be supported and respected at whatever level you have reached. The team has won uncountable medals at these games. However, the experience itself is so overwhelmingly uplifting, that the memory of being part of it is the most valuable thing we bring home.
